GF2008 was the very first Green Festival. It was held on the labour day weekend, which caused a few problems, but it had a fantastic turn out. With over 30 bands performing, loads of trails, pony rides, petting zoo, childcare, vendors, beer tent, video barn, alternative energy advice, great coffee, great food and lots or other stuff, it really started the ball rolling for us. It was a massive challenge as it all took less than three months to pull together.
GF2008 was run mainly by a team of 8 volunteers. (There are now over 50 for GF2009.) It was amazing to think we managed it, but it was all due to the people and the community. Everyone helped out manning booths, leading ponies, running to the local store, talking to people, whatever was required people were there eager to support. That spirit, informality and camaraderie is something we will try to keep going forward.
GF2008 also saw us hand out over 750 packs and leaflets on many green initiatives. We encouraged volunteers to participate in the festival. We employed local residents and artists. We also assisted an animal in distress by adopting 'Princess' from Moncton Zoo.
BUT… most importantly, we had a lot of fun doing it. If you feel like being part of the next festival then check out the application forms, or just drop us an Email.
